What is it? The Branch examines how
economics, trade and finance interact with the environment at local,
regional and global levels and how these linkages in turn affect
development.
What does it do? The Branch's primary
mission is to help countries integrate environmental considerations into
development planning and macroeconomic policies, including trade policies.
It undertakes activities to:

enhance understanding of the environmental, social and economic
impacts of trade liberalisation and the trade impacts of environmental
policies and agreements;

 |
clarify the linkages between trade, environment and development;
|
 |
raise awareness of the relationships between trade, environment and
development;
|
 |
develop assessment and incentive tools and assist countries in their
use;
|
 |
strengthen understanding between MEAs and the WTO;
|
 |
promote and support sustainable development policies in the financial
services sector. |
